Fourth Annual Arrive Alive Winners Announced

The 4th annual Arrive Alive Creative Contest sponsored by The Law Offices of Joe Bornstein has come to a consummate close. 

The contest asks graduating seniors from local Maine high schools to think creatively and come up with a message that warns their peers about the dangers of drinking and driving.  Students may enter the contest by submitting an essay or creative project of their choice that urges teenagers to stay safe and Arrive Alive

Don't Rock the Boat! - Maine Boating Safety

Although Maine has a low incidence of boating mishaps, a fatal boating accident on Long Lake last summer made us all stop in our wakes to take a second look at the rules and regulations that protect our water playgrounds.  

While it's easy to wonder if this tragedy could have been avoided if the proper safety precautions were taken, it's more important to learn from past mistakes to ensure that history does not repeat itself.

Homeowner Not Liable For Drunk Drivers' Accident

Is a homeowner liable for car accidents caused by drivers who have been drinking at his home? If the owner did not supply the alcohol and did not know about the alcohol consumption, then courts have found the answer to be no.

While the Maine Law Court has yet to weigh in on this issue, recently, a Maine Superior Court decision found in favor of the homeowner, just as the Supreme Court of Wisconsin previously had.

A sharply divided Maine Supreme Judicial Court recently overturned the nearly $3 million verdict a Cumberland County jury awarded last year to a young man with a brain injury.

Summer is Here - Everyone Into the Water!

The Law Offices of Joe Bornstein wants all of its friends and family to have a fun-filled summer in the pool, at the lake, or by the ocean.  Still, we caution everyone to know the safety rules of swimming and to be aware that the water can pose dangers if we are not careful.
