Texting While Driving Is Dangerous

A recent study found that texting while driving is among the most dangerous things a driver can do.

The study monitored truck drivers via in-cab video cameras to find that the risk of accident increases 23 times when sending or reading a text message. On average, drivers were taking their eyes off the road for an estimated 4.6 seconds to read or send messages, equivalent to the amount of time it would take an 18-wheeler at normal highway speeds to travel the length of a football field.

Day Long Festivals Celebrate Diversity In Maine

On Saturday July 25th, The Festival of Nations will celebrate diversity in Maine. Over twenty different cultures and their traditions will be on display at Deering Oaks in Portland offering entertainment, education, and typical food from the representing nations. The day is a hit with all races and religions throughout Greater Portland, and is a showcase of music, dance, performing arts, and cultural traditions from around the world.

The Festival of Nations is Maine’s oldest cultural festival and will be celebrating its 7th anniversary Saturday. The event is free to the public and runs from 2pm - 8:30pm.

And while some Mainers enjoy fishing year round, most everyone enjoys casting a line in the warm weather.

Grill Often And Grill Safe

In Maine, we don’t need an excuse like warm weather to fire up the grill. We’ll cookout come rain or shine, sleet or snow, morning, noon and night. But since the humidity is here, there’s nothing quite like a summer Bar-B-Q.

This July Fourth marks the 233rd anniversary of America’s independence from Great Britain. It also represents what the United States is best known for, freedom.

The national holiday commemorates the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776 and is often celebrated with family filled activities such as Bar-B-Q’s, baseball, and trips to the beach. Parades during the day and fireworks at night customarily cap off an enjoyable time for many Americans.
