Tread Lightly When Enjoying The Great Outdoors

The national non-profit organization Tread Lightly! recently held a seminar promoting proper outdoor ethics. The goal of the seminar was to teach people who love the great outdoors to balance their enjoyment with the need to maintain a healthy environment.

As Mainers, we are fortunate to have an abundance of land and water available for recreation. Be it in the open ocean or on one of Maine’s 6,000 lakes, in the fields or on the trails, or on the mountains or at the beach, the state’s vast outdoors provides endless amounts of adventure. And because we are lucky enough to explore nature’s playground, it’s equally important that we maintain it.

The educational seminar was held at Reynolds Motorsports in Buxton. Attendees were taught to practice proper outdoor ethics while enjoying off-road vehicles or watercraft. The cost of the 8-hour seminar was $25, but graduates are now qualified to teach outdoor ethics on behalf of the company anywhere in the nation.

Founded in 1985 by the US Forest Service, Tread Lightly’s mission is to promote responsible outdoor recreation through ethics education and stewardship. The non-profit’s educational materials include guidebooks, quick-tip brochures, hunting curriculum, an online awareness course, how-to videos, and a line of children’s materials.

Tips on responsible outdoor practices can be found on Tread Lightly’s website, including information on riding, fishing, gaming, hiking, biking, and boating.

At the Law Offices of Joe Bornstein, we see firsthand the effects of injuries and accidents that occur when Mainers are reckless when in the great outdoors. We feel that by being responsible to the environment you’re in, you’ll not only help preserve it for the future, you’ll help preserve yourself for the future. And that, is a WIN-WIN situation.
