At the Law Offices of Joe Bornstein, we understand that Social Security Disability is a complicated process full of questions and uncertainty for everyone involved. As specialized injury and disability attorneys, we feel that it is our obligation to share our knowledge and experience with others in an attempt to educate Mainers on their legal rights.
As a special service to health care and social service providers, we are delighted to offer our free Social Security Outreach Program.
Led by our team of experienced and specialized Social Security attorneys, our Outreach Program travels to the offices of physicians, social workers, psychologists, case workers and psychiatrists to provide information about how to assist Mainers who may be eligible for Social Security Disability (SSDIB) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
The informative sessions, which consist of a 20-30 minute power point presentation followed by a question and answer period, are free to health care providers in our community. Our attorneys travel to the sessions with their own laptop and slide projector that can be easily set up in a conference or lunch room. In addition to the digital presentation, our attorneys distribute supplemental written material to the audience members at each workshop.
The Social Security presentations address the following important issues:
- The difference between SSDIB and SSI
- When and how to apply for benefits
- The two ways to prove that someone is ‘disabled’
- The benefits that are provided and eligibility requirements
- What to do if denied
- How to start a claim to appeal a denial
- The role of a treating health care provider in this system
- When an attorney should be contacted
- How long the benefits process typically takes
- The type of information that will be required throughout the process
Our talented and knowledgeable team of Social Security attorneys have found these presentations to be very well received among the health care industry. These presentations have been made to numerous medical professionals and groups in Maine including: Allies, Inc., BaySide Neurorehabilitation Services, Cancer Community Center, Common Ties Mental Health Services, Disabled American Veterans, Ingraham Suicide Prevention Training, Medical Rehabilitation Associates, Acadia Hospital, Maine Medical Center, Motivational Services, National Association of Social Workers, Penobscot Bay Medical Center, Penobscot Community Health Care, People’s Regional Opportunity Program (PROP), Psychology and Educational Services, St. Mary’s Hospital, Shalom House, Tedford Housing, Tri-County Mental Health Services, WestSide Neurorehabilitation Services and Woodfords Family Services.
